As part of our Women In Sport (WIS) programme, Lucinda Moore-Fox & Philomena Brown attended the 2024 Copenhagen Weightlifting Cup this past weekend. Lucy & Phil are our most experienced female officials in the federation at present – officiating both domestically & internationally. They are also active athletes in the sport representing their clubs (Capital Strength WLC & Fianna WLC) & country with many records & medals to their names!
Both attended to take the IWF Cat 2 examination as part of our WIS Technical Officials (TO) Project : “WIS Technical Officials – Home and Away”. The examination was conducted under the supervision of Tina Beiter. She is a Vice President of the European Weightlifting Federation and the Chairwoman of the Technical Committee.
They both passed – and did very well.
- Lucinda Moore-Fox (IRE) : 99,13% Theoretical Test & 97,2% Practical Test
- Philomena Brown (IRE) : 98,26% Theoretical Test & 96,8% Practical Test
An historical moment for Weightlifting Ireland as they are the first female Irish International Technical Officials (ITOs) ever! We’d like to thank them both for their continued commitment and support of Weightlifting Ireland and the Women in Sport pillars.
Their success is a step in the right direction for our WIS TO Project : “WIS Technical Officials – Home and Away”. In line with the Sport Ireland Women in Sport Policy, this project will aim to increase the number of women officiating at Weightlifting Ireland events at all levels, from Club to International competitions.
The WIS Pillars are:
- Leadership and Governance,
- Visibility
- Coaching and Officiating
- Active Participation
We would like to extend our gratitude to Tina & her club for their hospitality and support in examining the first two Irish female TOs to achieve the IWF Category 2 examination. One of our 2023 Sport Ireland funded Women in Sport projects was to upskill and increase the number & visibility of female Technical Officials at all levels. To have her endorsement and involvement with the International element of the project has been fantastic!
