The European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) Executive Board (EB) recently published developments in forming the EWF Athletes Commission under the new EWF Constitution. Seán Brown was among the applicants who went through a rigorous vetting process. During the process, particular interest was put on the lack of any doping violations during the athletes careers to date.

Seán Brown’s appointment to the EWF Athlete Commission is an historical moment for Weightlifting Ireland (WI). Affirming our global presence, respect & strong involvement in international weightlifting.

He has volunteered as a WI Board Director since 2018 and has competed as an international athlete since 2014. Actively coaching the sport for over a decade, he has helped develop athletes of all ages, gender & abilities. He has always put the athletes first, following the WI Vision of being “athlete-centred”. Committed to the promotion of all forms of Olympic Weightlifting in Ireland and beyond.

SB : “I’m very grateful to have the support of the WI Board for this successful application. To have WI represented more at the EWF level will only benefit our athletes, coaches & members. I want to have a positive and lasting impact on the sport. I want to ensure developing athletes, anyone who aims to follow in my footsteps, or surpass me, has more support & opportunities than I ever had”.
