Weightlifting Ireland in partnership with Sport Ireland Anti-Doping is committed to ensuring weightlifting is a clean sport. Sport Ireland Anti-Doping is the National Anti-Doping organisation whose function includes the implementation of guidelines, codes of practice, standards of good conduct, fair play and the elimination of doping in sport.
We recognise that our membership is growing, with athletes taking their first steps onto the pathway to International representation. Weightlifting Ireland is dedicated to supporting our athletes on this pathway and providing education to support them through the process. It is highlighted that Anti-Doping does not just concern competitions (National or International) but should be a day to day consideration for all.
Our Anti-Doping Officer, Lucy Moore-Fox, will be hosting an online Anti-Doping presentation on Tuesday 8th August 2023 at 7.30pm. This presentation is for ALL athletes (youth, junior, senior & masters), parents and coaches. We request that under 18 athletes are accompanied by a parent or coach (they can join independently on separate devices). If you are an athlete who has been aspirations of competing internationally, we would encourage full attendance.
Lucy welcomes any questions on Anti-Doping, but if you can forward them in advance by Tuesday 8th August, it would be greatly appreciated. If you do not wish for your question to be discussed at the presentation, or think of any afterwards, they will also provide their contact details. You can email her here : [ [email protected] ]
The seminar will cover:
- An introduction to the anti-doping rules.
- The WADA 2023 Prohibited list.
- Use of Over the Counter (OTC) and prescriptions medications.
- What an anti-doping test looks like.
- Q&A Session.
