Vetting
Safeguarding young people and athletes is an overarching ethos for Weightlifting Ireland (WI) and must be a priority for all adults working with and responsible for children or vulnerable adults at club level and at competitions.
Vetting checks are required every three (3) years for anyone working with or responsible for young people or vulnerable adults in Weightlifting Ireland. Any member requiring vetting but under the age of 18 will also be required to provide a completed parental/carer consent form.
Vetting cannot be conducted for a person under the age of 16.
It is your responsibility to apply for and/or maintain your vetting credential. Any role you have may be removed if you are not vetted in line with our policy. If you are vetted, you will receive reminders that your credential is expiring via JustGo – it is your responsibility to act.
There is one vetting process for Weightlifting Ireland:
- National Vetting Bureau (NVB) for relevant activities undertaken in Ireland.
You will not be permitted to undertake Weightlifting Ireland activities requiring vetting without a valid vetting credential.
Details can be found in the Weightlifting Ireland Vetting Policy : HERE
Our National Children’s Officer (NCO), Shauna B Keane, along with assistance from our Designated Liaison Person (DLP), Caroline Murphy, will advise and guide members through the process and are available for any queries or issues that may arise.
Vetting Approval & Certification
Approval & certification is required for all coaches, officials & volunteers working with or providing services to young people (U18) and vulnerable adults. Vetting is a mandatory requirement for all members wishing to gain access to the field of play (FOP) at WI events/activities.
All members of Weightlifting Ireland, both voluntary and paid staff, who regularly work with children and vulnerable adults in weightlifting, must complete a vetting application. An individual will not work/volunteer with children or vulnerable persons in WI until their vetting application has been completed and the outcome conveyed to the Designated Liaison Person (DLP). It will be an offence to start a person in relevant work before a vetting application has been completed.
