International Qualification
Weightlifting Ireland athletes have the opportunity to be considered for selection to compete at international competitions if they meet the minimum qualification criteria. The main international competitions of interest are hosted by the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF), International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), EMWA Masters Weightlifting & IMWA Masters Weightlifting. They include but are not limited to the following:
- European Youth & U15 Championships
- European Junior & U23 Championships
- European Senior Championships
- European Masters Championships
- World Youth Championships
- World Junior Championships
- World Senior Championships
- World Masters Championships
- Olympic Games
Athletes must be a Weightlifting Ireland member in good standing on the date that these standards are attained. It is not acceptable to meet or exceed the qualifying standard and then join Weightlifting Ireland.
Expression of Interest
Please see expression of interest forms linked within the relevant selection policies below. Athletes must complete these forms one month prior to the preliminary entry deadline for any international competition you wish to be considered for selected for.
New athletes – please submit an expression of interest no later than 12 weeks before an international competition to ensure that WI are made aware of your intention to qualify so that we can help guide you through the process of becoming eligible for international competition. Athletes must complete all steps outlined in the selection policy documentation.
Athletes wishing to be considered for international selection will need to meet the minimum qualification criteria outlined in the relevant selection policies & be a member of Weightlifting Ireland at the time of their expression of interest submission.
