The European Masters Weightlifting Association (EWMA) and Weightlifting Ireland announced today that Mr. Wayne Healy has committed an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) as specified in Article 2.1 of the EMWA Anti-Doping Policy “Presence of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers in an Athlete’s Sample”.
Wayne Healy, a masters athlete and weightlifting coach, has been sanctioned by a period of Ineligibility of 3 years starting from the date he was Provisionally Suspended, 6 August 2024. In a doping control test immediately following the 2024 European Masters Weightlifting Championships in Haugesund, Norway, on 19th June 2024, he provided a sample which tested positive for the presence of a prohibited substance, Stanozolol, an anabolic steroid. His results in those Championships are automatically disqualified.
What would otherwise have been a 4-year ban was reduced to 3 years on the basis of Article 10.8.1 of the EMWA Anti-Doping Policy “One-Year Reduction for Certain Anti Doping Rule Violations Based on Early Admission and Acceptance of Sanction”. Until 6 August 2027, Wayne Healy is barred from participating in any capacity in any events, activities or competitions organised, authorised or under the auspices of the EWMA, Weightlifting Ireland or any Weightlifting Ireland affiliated club.
Weightlifting Ireland would also like to ensure its members are aware of Article 2.10 of The Irish Anti-Doping Rules – Prohibited Association. Under this rule, associating with someone found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation in a professional or sport-related capacity may be sanctioned with a ban of 2 years. Some examples of the types of association which are prohibited include: obtaining coaching, training, strategy, technique, nutrition or medical advice.
1 Article 10.14.1 of the EWMA Anti-Doping Policy provides that he may not, during his period of Ineligibility participate in any capacity in a Competition or activity (other than authorised anti-doping education or rehabilitation programs) authorised or organised by any Signatory, Signatory’s member organisation, or a club or other member organisation of a Signatory’s member organisation, or in competitions authorised or organised by any professional league or any international or national level Event organisation or any elite or national-level sporting activity funded by a governmental agency.
